Barclays Helpdesk

By bernard - Posted on 29 December 2009

Arrgggghhhh. Ok so I have been foolish this time and forgotten the PIN for a new Barclays account. Normally I always write this in my encrypted password file but this time I didn’t for some reason! So I have not been able to get online again since.

Yesterday I decided to call the Barclays helpdesk and request a new PIN as you can’t do it online. Eventually went through the normal press 1 for this 2 for that etc and got through to ‘Malcolm’ who was very helpful but the conversation was incredibly frustrating.

I told him I wanted a new PIN sent out, so ‘Malcolm’ needed to confirm my details first. Fair enough glad he did that as it is useful thing to get done first. The he said ‘so you want to request a new PIN for the card’, good he is double checking I have called for the right thing and he has the right information. Yes I say and then he goes on to say he needs to confirm some security information first. Oh I thought we had just done that, no need more. So off we go answering a few more questions and then ‘Malcolm’ said again ‘so you want to request a new PIN for the card’, er yes for the third time. Not a problem sir I just need to verify a few more details, ok but I thought we have just done that, so a few more questions and finally ‘Malcolm’ said I have enough information.

Great I thought I can hang up and get on with life, oh no ‘Malcolm’ informed me that he now had to transfer me to another department, no surely not you are joking?? Nope ‘Malcolm’ asked if I wouldn’t mind hanging on a couple of minutes while he transferred me, well sounds like I have no choice in the matter! Eventually he passed me over to ‘Carl’ and I thought oh no here we go again and start the questions again. Fortunately he didn’t need all the information again he just wanted to ask me if I wanted my PIN resent. Yes yes yes!!

No problem sir it is on it’s way over to you now in the post.

Thank goodness, both guys were very helpful but boy they do make these calls very frustrating and it’ll teach me when I receive the new PIN to make sure I keep a record of it this time.
