Anglo Scottish Cup Les Houches

Last week I spent the time in Les Houches, France with Natasha for the Anglo Scottish Cup race. We were there with lots of friends from various clubs who also had children taking part in the races. It was the first snow race for Natasha, not something I was expecting to have to attend with her, but during the year Natasha asked if she could give it a go, what more could I say!

So out we went, a few days training and then onto the race. Natasha and a few friends trained with Impulse Racing, and this was something that worked incredibly well this year.

The GS race was schedule for the Monday but overnight there was a large dump of snow and with it still snowing during the day the race had to be postponed with too much snow. The GS race took place on the Tuesday instead and in much better conditions. A good race but unfortunately it had to be shortened due to a lengthy couple of injuries. But apart from those the race was very good. Natasha loved the GS race and certainly wants to do more.

The Wednesday saw the Slalom take place on the Grand Bois, initially in fog and then clear sky. Natasha was extremely nervous of the first run and when she came down she was shaking. Fortunately when she came down on the second run she was smiling.

The races are an excellent introduction for ski racing in a resort which is easy to get to and get around. It was run last year and this year was similar. Off course as with any race there are areas which could be improved, mainly around the communication of certain things throughout the race. Obviously from a parents point of view it is very easy to complain about things and running a race is always challenging, but this is a set of races which will hopefully continue to grow and encourage more racers. In general the organisation was good just a few things that could easily be improved.

Anyway I have sent an email over to the organisers with some comments and hopefully will get some feedback at some point.
